Granada 2021 theme: Fashion & Social Inclusion
Fashion Week brought its vibrant theme of “Fashion & Social Inclusion” o the heart of Granada,
a city celebrated for its rich cultural tapestry, historical charm, and deep-rooted traditions. Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Granada is a melting pot of influences, where the echoes of its Moorish past blend seamlessly with modern Spanish culture. This unique setting provided the perfect backdrop for an edition of Fashion Week dedicated to expanding the horizons of the fashion industry.
This year’s theme focused on making the fashion world more inclusive, welcoming, and representative of all people. It sought to break down the barriers that often confine fashion to narrow definitions, instead embracing a broader spectrum of identities and expressions. The aim was to create new, vibrant fashion worlds that celebrate the beauty of diversity in all its forms—whether it be the myriad colors, shapes, or cultural backgrounds that make up the human experience. By doing so, Fashion Week not only highlighted the diversity that enriches our society but also emphasized the importance of inclusivity as a cornerstone of the fashion industry’s future.
In Granada, we partnered with Casa Kuna, Oh Oh July and ContraBanda Granada to bring this vision to life.
Casa Kuna, a nonprofit organization founded in 2020, is dedicated to providing training and opportunities for social inclusion for individuals in vulnerable situations. Located in the emblematic Albaicín neighborhood, Casa Kuna promotes social cohesion through a multicultural and ecological approach.
ContraBanda Granada is a secondhand store that promotes conscious consumption and the reuse of clothing. It serves as an alternative to excessive consumption, providing a relaxed and inclusive space where community members can engage in cultural and artistic activities. The store also hosts temporary and permanent exhibitions, local artist showcases, and events.
Oh Oh July, established as a physical store in the heart of Granada, is a boutique dedicated to promoting more responsible and respectful fashion consumption. The store is known for carefully curating unique, high-quality garments, each with a story, reminiscent of the timeless pieces we might inherit from our mothers or grandmothers. Drawing inspiration from style icons like Jane Birkin and Jean Seberg, Oh Oh July offers a collection that feels both nostalgic and enduring. The boutique’s charm has also extended online, catering to loyal customers and friends beyond Granada, who share a love for these thoughtfully selected pieces.
The event featured a range of activities, including upcycling workshops for kids and high school students, a fashion show, and both photoshoots and street style shoots. The upcycling workshop was a highlight, offering an interactive and educational experience that culminated in the creation of garments for the fashion show at Casa Kuna. The workshop was a great success, and we were thrilled with the results!
The fashion show itself was a powerful expression of breaking stereotypes, showcasing models whose life stories challenge and inspire. These individuals exemplify tolerance, resilience, and the essence of community — sharing and well-being for everyone. They are part of Escuela de Solidaridad, an organization that supports individuals at risk of exclusion. By shopping at Casa Kuna, you contribute to this meaningful project while enjoying a unique shopping experience.
This collaboration has forged a heartfelt bond, and we look forward to continuing this journey and sharing more at the upcoming Krearte Festival. Stay tuned for more!
We extend our deepest gratitude to our collaborating stores, Casa Kuna, ContraBanda Granada, and Oh Oh July, for their invaluable support. Thank you to all the volunteers whose dedication made this event possible, and to the models whose courage and stories brought our vision to life. Your contributions have made this edition truly special. Lastly, thanks to everyone who participated and supported Second Fashion Week. Together, we’ve created something meaningful, and we look forward to future collaborations.
